DRAMA SINCE 1962
50 plays and counting
OUR HISTORY
HADS was founded in 1962 and has produced over 50 plays, pantos & musical sketches since that time. The founding members involved local families and friends which is a tradition upheld even today.
Whilst many people are from the village, we now attract members from the surrounding area, bringing their own skills experience and expertise.
Several of our younger members have clearly enjoyed their time and experiences with HADS and gone on to study and work in the Performing Arts Industry.

IT STARTED WITH HADS
Jonathon Smart – BA (HONS – 1st Class) Film Production; University of Portsmouth
Founder Member’s Grandson
‘My journey into the world of video production began long before I ever picked up a camera. At just nine years old, I joined my local amateur dramatics society, HADS, and instantly fell in love with the energy, creativity, and freedom that came with being part of a staged production.
HADS gave me the confidence to express myself, the thrill of performing, and perhaps most importantly, a fascination with what goes on behind the scenes. While I loved being part of the productions on stage, I found myself increasingly drawn to the technical aspects—lighting, sound, and how each element came together to create a cohesive and compelling show.
It was through those early experiences that I discovered my passion for visual storytelling. I knew I wanted to keep exploring these interests, and over time, that path led me to a career as a Video Producer.
Today, I work at a marketing agency in Essex, producing lifestyle videos for a variety of clients. Every day, I draw on the foundational skills I first began developing at HADS—staging scenes with models and actors, collaborating with a group of creative individuals, and applying technical know-how with lighting, sound, and camera equipment.
Looking back, HADS wasn’t just a childhood hobby; it was the starting point of a career that continues to inspire and challenge me. And for that, I’ll always be grateful.’
Jessica Williams – BA (HONS) Musical Theatre; Chichester Conservatoire; MA Musical Theatre, Trinity Laban Conservatoire
‘HADS was amazing! I had such a blast! It was what got me into acting. I went on to study Musical Theatre and both Degree and Masters Level – it all started in that little Village Hall’
